When Marvel Comics partnered withMTV in the ‘90s to release aBeavis and Butt-Headcomic title, the storyline of nearly every issue would include a few pages of Beavis and Butt-Head reading and critiquing comic books. Just as every episode ofBeavis and Butt-Headhad a break that featured the titular dimwits offering absurd commentary on music videos, their comic series saw them doing the same thing, but with varying issues of Marvel Comics - and each one is just as great as fans would imagine. While reading aCaptain Americacomic featuring the iconic Avenger fighting Crossbones, Beavis and Butt-Head utterly roast the Sentinel of Liberty. From saying the ‘A’ insignia on his head stands for “Captain A-Hole”, to claiming that he ‘wears his underwear on the outside of his pants’ to avoid skidmarks,Beavis and Butt-Head have only hilariously mean things to say about Captain America, with Beavis even admitting that he likes Crossbones more because he has ‘bone’ in his name - absolutely classic.
Beavis and Butt-Head are reading aWar Machinecomic, and while they seem to be enjoying it enough, the two still think Iron Man is cooler. Not because Tony Stark was Marvel’s original ‘Iron Man’-type hero, or any other reason to do with Iron Man as a character (or an Avenger), but because “that other dude has th' song”, at which point,Beavis and Butt-Head start doing vocal imitation (with accompanying air-guitar) of the song ‘Iron Man’ by Black Sabbath. Even when reading comics, these two can’t stop thinking about music.
Thor is fighting Loki inThe Mighty Thorissue Beavis and Butt-Head are reading, and they absolutely trash the issue with their commentary. Butt-Head mockingly says “Feel my a**” when Thor tells Loki to “Feel my wrath!”, followed by Butt-Head’s iconic breathy-laugh. While the two pick apart the lines of dialogue in this comic,Beavis and Butt-Head do seem to be impressed when Thor gets turned into a frog(even if they do end on a joke that’s at Thor’s expense) - so, ultimately, a win for the God of Thunder, as far as Beavis and Butt-Head are concerned.
Hulk is battling Rhino in the issue Beavis and Butt-Head are reading, at which point, the two actually come up with a pretty solid (and hilariously on-brand) theory regarding the Hulk. “I bet his fart is the strongest one there is”, says Beavis, after seeing the Hulk scream at Rhino that he’s the strongest. While this is pretty much just typical toilet humor from Beavis and Butt-Head (as was their crack about the Hulk’s ‘pants size’),a gamma-irradiated fart could actually be incredibly dangerous, and might just be this founding Avenger’s ‘secret power’.
Beavis and Butt-Head have always only seen women as objects with which they hope to ‘score’, with Daria Morgendorffer being perhaps the only girl they see as an actual person. Unfortunately,Black Widow is the subject of their idiotic ‘male gaze’, as the first thing out of their mouths is a comment about Natasha’s chest, which totally undermines her status as an Avengers-level hero. But, in times like these, it’s important to remember that Beavis and Butt-Head are true idiots, and nothing they say should be taken seriously (especially when it comes to women).
While Beavis and Butt-Head are reading a truly spectacularSpider-Mancomic featuring the web-slinger taking on both Venom and Carnage, the two nincompoops couldn’t care less about the awesome action right in front of their faces (aside from thinking Carnage’s blood-based symbiote was cool). Instead, they were thinking about Mary Jane Watson, wishing the comic would feature more of the ‘red-haired chick’. Mary Jane isn’t typically a fan-favoriteSpider-Mancharacter, but the single-mindedBeavis and Butt-Head find her panels the only ones worth ‘reading’.
Like withBlack Widow- and, honestly, practically every other superhero who’s a woman in this series (it’sBeavis and Butt-Head, what’s there to say?) - Beavis and Butt-Head are fixated on She-Hulk’s body while reading one of her comics, and they’re not talking about her muscles. In fact, if Jen Walters actually heard them, she’d probably bust their skulls on pure principle - which is actually (technically) possible.
She-Hulk and Beavis and Butt-Head are meta charactersby nature, which means they could possibly meet outside the realms of their respective universes. If that happened, thenBeavis and Butt-Head would face the wrath of She-Hulk, which she could unleash upon them on behalf of herself and Black Widow for Beavis and Butt-Head’s gross comments about them - and it would be absolutely hilarious (just not for Beavis and Butt-Head).
AsBeavis and Butt-Headare reading aDoctor Strangecomic, they’re not paying attention to the storyline in the slightest, opting instead todiscuss how cool it would be if they had magic powers like Doctor Strange. While the reasons range from inappropriate to insulting, the fact that they’re having this conversation at all basically confirms that Doctor Strange is their favorite Avenger. It’s a classic ‘which superpower would you have’ discussion that most people have had with their friends, and it’s totally inspired by Doctor Strange - something that isn’t seen when Beavis and Butt-Head read any otherAvengerscomic.
When Beavis tells Butt-Head that Namor “has the power to, like, swim and stuff”, Butt-Head quickly concludes “that sucks”. Then, after trashing Namor’s trunks, his villain, and his catchphrase,Butt-Head comes to the realization that Namor - given that he has the ‘power to swim’ - should just be a lifeguard. And not just any lifeguard, but one of the stars ofBaywatch. While being a lifeguard is decidedly below Namor’s status, Butt-Head technically isn’t wrong, as Namor’s skills and physique would make him an instantBaywatchsensation.
1"Chicks Know He Sucks": Silver Surfer Faces the Insulting Wrath of Beavis and Butt-Head
While the Silver Surfer’s standing as a prominent Marvel Comics hero and an honorary Avenger has been well-established, Beavis and Butt-Head don’t seem to have any idea who he is. The first half of this page sees Beavis and Butt-Head thinking that Silver Surfer is some pop culture figure from a variety of ’90s music videos that they just can’t put their finger on. However, once they learn who he is,Beavis and Butt-Head quickly decide that the Silver Surfer ‘sucks’, which is the worst criticism one could receive from these two boneheads.
Beavis and Butt-Head may not have added much to the significance of Marvel Comics lore, but for a brief and beautiful moment in the ’90s, they not only existed under the Marvel Comics imprint, but they got the chance to offer commentary on some of the most iconic members of theAvengersin history, just as they’ve always done for MTV music videos - and, for good or bad, they did so in a way that onlyBeavis and Butt-Headever could.

Beavis and Butt-Head originally appeared in an MTV short film called Frog Baseball before the characters got their own series on the network in 1993. The original series ran for seven seasons until 1997 and got an eighth season in 2011. Paramount+ would later revive the series for their streaming service in 2022. Mike Judge’s characters have also gotten two movies; Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996, and Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe in 2022.
