MultiVersus Season 1: Release Date, Free Characters, Perks, & Battle Pass Info
MultiVersus is set to return with its first season of new content almost a full year after its beta closed.
Tank
Wonder Woman is an excellent tank for any player looking to get into the character type. Despite being a tank, she still deals decent damage with her sword. Wonder Woman is especially useful in the 2v2 game mode. Her lasso provides an additional recovery mechanic, being able to pull allies from the ledge. Wonder Woman’s Side Special also heals allies of all debuffs while her shield can act as a platform or defensive mechanism for allies as well.
Although an incredibly supportive tank in 2v2s, Wonder Woman is somewhat lacking in the 1v1 game mode. Many of her supportive abilities are not viable here and she is significantly slower and denser than most opponents. Her offensive lasso and Amazon Shout can make for fun gameplay moments, but her moveset is undeniably lacking whenever she is solo. If you want to be successful in 1v1s with Wonder Woman, mastering mechanics such asParrying inMultiVersusis important.

Bruister
Jake the Dog is an incredibly fun bruiser to play as inMultiVersus. In solo play, Jake the Dog is as viable as any other bruiser character, with quick and versatile attacks that can transform the character to give a variety of odd shapes and objects that might catch your opponents off guard.Particularly Jake’s Up Special, his elongation can prevent enemies from recovering from the ledge if positioned correctly.
In 2v2s, Jake the Dog is one of the better Bruiser picks as well. His versatile fighting style and unique hitboxes can help immensely during fights, especially whenever paired with a tank or support style character. The only thing that keeps Jake near the bottom of this list is his relatively weak attack power. Compared to other bruisers and tanks, Jake just doesn’t deal as much damage per hit, but certainly makes up for this fact in variety.

Assassin
Harley Quinn is one of the top assassins inMultiVersus, providing plenty of mobility and damage types. Perhaps the best part of Harley Quinn’s moveset is the various projectiles she comes strapped with. Once you begin to learn the character more, setting up vicious combos with her remotely donated explosives will become your go-to move to get quick ring-outs. Harley Quinn also has a unique Confetti effect that she applies through knockback attacks. Whenever this status effect is applied, enemies receive additional burn damage for a brief window.
As is the case with most assassin characters, Harley Quinn’s main drawback is her health. On average, Harley Quinn takes significantly more damage per hit than other characters. To be successful with Harley Quinn, you’ll either need to pair up with a supportive character or quickly catch on to dodge timings. Although her move set certainly helps players remain mobile, it will take fewer hits to ring out Harley Quinn. Now that she can pair withthe Joker inMultiVersus, she’s only likely to be more of a threat.

Bruiser
Banana Guard is one of the newest and most unexpected additions to the roster, similar to Joker inMultiVersus. Similar to Shaggy, Banana Guard is a character that relies on the basic fundamentals rather than any particular playstyle or unique gimmicks. The Banana Guard is an extremely balanced character, providing excellent damage, range, and effects. The Guard’s spear gives the character the best melee range inMultiVersus, while his Up and Side Specials are incredible gap closers that can easily lead to ring-outs.
The Banana Guard’s Side Specials are particularly slow, so it’s best to lead into this after you’ve already established a combo on your opponent.

The Banana Guard fares poorly against assassins, highly mobile characters, or players who have mastered dodge timing.Although the Banana Guard can deal plenty of damage, his attacks have a longer-than-average wind-up. This gives your opponent a wide window to dodge, parry, or launch a quicker attack of their own. In this sense, it’s best to layer your Specials with basic attack combos. Although not without his weaknesses, Banana Guard is an excellent pick for newer players.
Superman has the best stage recovery out of any tank inMultiVersusby far. In the early access phase, Superman’s grab paired with his aerial Side Special wreaked havoc on players. Although this has largely been nerfed for the full release, Superman’s inherent flying ability allows him to maneuver around the more dangerous parts of most maps with relative ease. Alongside this, most of the Man of Steels Specials also grant armor, enhancing his tank status even further.

Although his attacks and aerial abilities are two incredible assets, Superman does lack in his other specials. The DC hero’s Neutral Special can freeze enemies, but this can be exceedingly difficult to pull off in 1v1s or against highly mobile characters. Superman is easily one of the best tanks inMultiVersus, but he requires an equally skilled bruiser to be utilized most effectively.
Batman is the most versatile bruiser inMultiVersus. The Dark Knight’s basic attacks and Specials deal significant damage, but he also has an arsenal of gadgets and projectiles which can extend his range. Batman’s Batarangs are incredible tools and are the fastest projectile in the game that can clear entire stages. His hook gun is an effective recovery tool or gap closer, while his smoke bomb can also provide helpful escape utility.

Basic attacks from Batman not only deal heavy damage, but also inflict the Weakened status effect. Compared to the simpler bruisers on this list, learning Batman’s combos can be difficult at first. Once you manage to master the character, it becomes clear that he is the best bruiser inMultiVersus.
Shaggy is far from the best character inMultiVersus, but he is the easiest to learn and the first character that all players unlock after completing the tutorial. Shaggy is the most balanced fighter inMultiVersus, which makes him the single best pick for players new to platform fighters. His kit is made up of straightforward melee attacks with his Down Special being a Hadouken-like projectile.

Although it’s important to charge your Rage during the fight, be sure not to charge in front of your opponent. The Neutral Special leaves Shaggy vunlerable and open to attacks.
The most important part of Shaggy’s moveset is his Rage status. By performing your Neutral Special, you can begin to build Shaggy’s Rage. Once completed, all of Shaggy’s Special moves deal increased damage, gain greater range, and also gain unique properties depending on the ability. Shaggy does not particularly excel, as he lacks ranged options and supportive abilities for 2v2s, but he can pump out damage extremely well. If you’re looking to improve your mechanics and deal damage, then Shaggy is your pick.

Mage
Mages are few and far between inMultiVersuswhen compared to Bruisers, Assassins, and Tanks, which make up the majority of character types. Mages are the hardest class to master, with Bugs Bunny being the best of that type in the game. No character inMultiVersushas more projectile summons than Bugs Bunny, being able to summon rockets, dynamites, anvils, and more on his opponents. Not only does Bugs Bunny have an arsenal of ranged attacks, but he can also send these attacks out fast. This can create a barrage of projectiles that even the most skilled players will have a hard time dodging.
Considering how much Bugs Bunny relies on his wide array of projectiles, his basic attacks are relatively weak and slow. Basic attacks are not at the core of this character. Instead, it’s best to create openings by using your summons, then to move in closer for melee attacks.Bugs Bunny is extremely difficult to master and the opposite of the Bruiser archetype. If you manage to master this Looney Tune, then you can quickly overwhelm your opponents.
Arya Stark had a slow start in theMultiVersusbeta but has quickly emerged as one of the best characters in the full game. Given her status as an assassin, Arya is a highly mobile character with quick attacks. True to her television counterpart, Arya can also steal faces from opposing characters to temporarily transform into them, which can lead to devastating combo attacks.
Arya has two unique effects that make her a deadly character in both 2v2s and 1v1s. First, her Disorient ability is one of the best in the game. Whenever this attack lands, it forces the opponent to face away from Arya. This is useful as the following strike will break armor, grant bonus damage, and can lead to an easy combo attack. Next, her Pies are a great way to heal allies and slow down enemies, making targets even more vulnerable for this quick-moving character.
Finn dominated theMultiVersusbeta, so it’s no surprise that he tops the rankings list yet again. Finn has a hard-hitting basic attack that can quickly cause your opponents’ damage percentages to skyrocket. The important thing to master with Finn is his Up and Side Specials, which are the single best ring-out attack inMultiVersus. These two Specials cause Finn to spin his backpack wildly, striking any opponent caught nearby.
Use your Up and Side Specials carefully. Anytime you use the Special attacks, you spend all your coins, regardless of whether you hit the target or not.
For this Special attack, the more coins you have in the bag, the harder the hit can be. Coins drop from your opponent whenever you land successful hits. To make the most out of this attack, it is essential to gather coins early and often. Finn is an incredible aerial fighter, so it’s important to learn how to play a riskier, over-the-ledge style with this character to excel. If you may, then you can easily earn ring-outs with Finn inMultiVersus.
