“It’s Sad”: All American Homecoming’s Lando Actor Reacts To Cancellation After Season 3

Summary

All American: Homecominghas been cancelled. The CW show, which was a spinoff from the popular high school football dramaAll American, followed the original character Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya) to college. The show, which also starred Peyton Alex Smith, Kelly Jenrette, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, and Camille Hyde, was one of the few scripted programs on The CW not to be culled when the network was taken over by Nexstar. It was renewed for the upcomingAll American: Homecomingseason 3, though it had a reduced budget and had to demote several stars from the main cast.

PerDeadline,All American: Homecominghas been cancelled by The CWmore than a month ahead of the premiere of season 3, which is set to debut on July 8. It seems that this decision was partially made because, despite the show’s popularity with a young adult audience, the network is expanding its target demographic with an eye on viewers of all ages rather than just a younger market. Creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll has issued a statement about the cancellation, saying that she is “devastated.” Read her full statement below:

I’m devastated to learn that All American: Homecoming will not be moving forward with more episodes and that this new season premiering in July will be our final one. However, I am so very grateful to have worked with this incredible cast and crew, led by Geffri Maya, to bring the authentic HBCU experience to your screens for the last three seasons. We made this show for the culture and thank our loyal audience and fans for taking this ride with us. We made this show so that our community, our kids (and their dreams), could be seen and celebrated every week and we are proud to say we accomplished that mission… Especially with this exciting final season which we can’t wait to show you all. So with a heavy but proud heart, I give one final shoutout to our favorite BRINGSTON LIONS!

The CW Will Be Almost Unrecognizable After Losing All American: Homecoming

The Network’s Original Scripted Slate Is Shrinking.

This leavesAll Americanas the only one of the four renewed shows left standing at the time of writing.

The cancellation of theAll Americanspinoffmarks one of the final blows to the CW’s pre-Nexstar scripted series. Originally, onlyfour titles were renewed out of the entire scripted slate, namelyAll American,Homecoming,Walker, andSuperman & Lois. However, in addition to reduced budgets and episode counts for many of the titles, it was announced in 2023 that the upcomingSuperman & Loisseason 4 will be its last. In May 2024,Walkerwas also cancelled, midway through its own fourth season.

What Damon’s Reduced All American: Homecoming Season 3 Role Means For Simone’s Love Triangle

When All American: Homecoming season 2 ended, Simone and Damon were getting serious, so how will Peyton Alex Smith’s reduced screen time affect them?

This leavesAll Americanas the only one of the four renewed shows left standing at the time of writing. It was renewed in June 2024, midway through the run of season 6, so it is at least safe for the next year. However, it was only given 13 episodes, which makes itthe shortest season yet behind the current season, which had already been reduced to 15 episodes from the show’s usual order of 16 to 20 episodes per season.

All Americanseason 6 had a delayed premiere in the wake of the 2023 Hollywood strikes, when writers and then actors took to the picket lines to fight for fair pay.

It remains to be seen if any of theAll American: Homecomingcastwill return to the universe by reprising their roles on season 7 of the flagship show. However, given the general reduction of episodes, cast sizes, and budgets for the returning CW series that have since been cancelled, this may not be likely. While the flagship show could potentially continue running for more years to come, it stands alone on an almost entirely unrecognizable network.
