Now, if you think this sounds likeSingle’s Inferno, there’s one key difference: the Better Late Than Single contestants had never been in a relationship before. They were each given a makeover by the show’s cupid experts, who watched on as their mentees came out of their shells.

In the end, onlytwo couples were formed. Kang Ji-su and Kim Seung-li chose each other, as did arguably the most talked-about pair, Ha Jeong-mok and Park Ji-yeon. All of them had kept a low profile, but this has since changed, with one cast member sharing a major update.

Ha Jeong-mok confirms Park Ji-yeon break-up

This week, Jeong-mok – who received criticism for his love triangle with Yi Do – took to Instagram to share an apology and ask for kindness. He also confirmed that he and Ji-yeon have broken up.

The postreads(translated from Korean): “In this unusually hot summer, I’d like to thank all the viewers who loved our program and joined us on this journey.

“Every day the show aired was a time when I had to face my foolish and inadequate self – a period that was both embarrassing and painful. Looking back, I think what was harder than hearing others speak ill of me was the disappointment and shame I felt toward myself.

“I can’t bring myself to easily use the word ‘truth.’ Whatever my true intentions may have been, I believe I cannot undo the consequences my actions have brought. For that reason, whether what appeared on the broadcast was intentional or not, I take full responsibility for it all.

“I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to everyone who felt discomfort or displeasure because of my shortcomings. I am truly sorry.”

“In truth, I had always believed I was a decent person, so accepting the negative perceptions of me has been confusing and painful. Watching not only myself but also my family get hurt has been so distressing that I think the past month may have been the most difficult time of my life.

“Even so, I am listening carefully and taking to heart every criticism and rebuke you have given me. I will keep reflecting on my shortcomings and strive continuously to become a better person. Please, I ask you not to hate me too much.”

Ji-yeon uploaded a post about theNetflix seriesthe same day, although she doesn’t speak about Jeong-mok.

“As someone who had never been in a relationship, I wondered if I could really open my heart to someone, and I was afraid of showing my true self in front of so many people. But I decided to gather my courage and take part in the show,” shewrote.

“It was my first time, so I was clumsy and had many shortcomings, but it was also a precious time that allowed me to reflect on myself. If my awkward and unstable moments caused discomfort for viewers, I would be truly grateful if you could view my shortcomings with generosity.

“I also want to sincerely thank the production team and all the staff for giving me the chance to experience unforgettable moments.” Ji-yeon thanked her cupid expert Lee Eun-ji for teaching her that in order to love someone else, she must first love herself.

“Above all, through this journey I met precious friends who shine like gems. We laughed together, worried together, talked through the night, and traveled together, building memories I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Ji-yeon continued.

“When I think back to that time, the first word that comes to mind is ‘gratitude.’ The moments we shared were far deeper and more genuine than what was shown on the broadcast, and I will treasure this friendship while continuing to work on becoming a better person.

“Finally, I kindly ask you to show your support and warm regard for all the cast members of Better Late Than Single.” Ji-yeon and Jeong-mok don’t follow each other on Instagram.

Kang Ji-su and Kim Seung-li status up in the air

Neither Ji-su nor Seung-li have confirmed whether their relationship went the distance after the Better Late Than Single finale, but many believe they have broken up, not least because they also don’t follow each other on Instagram.

Another clue arrived in January 2025 when Ji-su spoke about disappointing moments in 2024 – when thenew TV showwas filmed.

“There were a lot of regrets and a lot of upsetting moments in 2024, but let’s leave all the difficult memories behind in 2024 and welcome a brand new 2025 together,” shesaid.

What’s more, in a recent interview, the cast shared their final thoughts on their participation on the series, with both Ji-su and Seung-li avoiding talking about whether they’re still together.

Ji-su stated (viaSBS Star), “Better Late than Single was a challenge to step out into the world. I hope I no longer let the problems of the past scare me away from the present.”

Seung-li added, “It was an essential stepping stone to becoming a better person. I’m grateful to everyone who tolerated my frustrating aspects and laughed along. I’m learning and growing step by step, and I hope you’ll continue to love all the participants.”

They also haven’t discussed their relationship status on Instagram and, much like the rest of the cast, asked for kindness, especially towards their fellow singletons.

“I imagine some of you might have been confused at first, but even so, I really appreciate your patience with my frustrating moments, your laughter, and for staying with us until the end,” Seung-liwrote.

“As human beings, we can’t always show only our perfect sides and I think that’s actually part of what makes our show so special. Thank you for seeing the beauty in that.

“We’re all learning and growing, one step at a time, so I hope you’ll continue to support and show love to all the cast members.”

Similarly, the producers and fans alike haveurged viewers to treat the cast with empathy, a reminder that, as past dating shows have shown, online bullying can have very real consequences for contestants’ mental health.
