Cyberpunk 2077developer CD Projekt Red says it is not in talks with Microsoft about removing the game from the Xbox marketplace. The announcement comes afterSony’s unprecedented decisionto removeCyberpunk 2077from the PlayStation Store.
According to astatement sent to Reuters, CD Projekt Red chief executive officer Adam Kicinski says there are no current discussions about removing the game from the Microsoft Store. “We are not in such discussions with Microsoft at the moment,” says Kicinski.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the game won’t be removed, but it does mean that Microsoft is unlikely to follow Sony’s lead right away.According to CD Projekt Red, the decision to remove the game from the PlayStation Store came after discussions between the two companies.
“Following our discussion with PlayStation, a decision was made to temporarily suspend digital distribution ofCyberpunk 2077on PlayStation Store,” the company tweeted. “We are working hard to bringCyberpunk 2077back to PlayStation Store as soon as possible.”
It’s unclear from the statement if the Sony removal was a mutual decision between the two parties, but it does clarify that CD Projekt Red was aware that it was happening and actively discussed it with Sony. It’s likely that a similar discussion would take place before Microsoft takes any action.
Cyberpunk 2077’slaunch is troubling for CD Projekt Red. Despite positive early sales, the company’s founders havereportedly lost $1 billion in wealthfollowing the game’s release. The studio has come under fire for hiding the state of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game ahead of launch.
