The cast of Red Dwarf

“We knew we were going to do more Red Dwarf, and we’re actually now doing it in the middle of October to the middle of November this year. A 90-minute special, three half-hours. So yes, we are making more. I can’t believe I’ve agreed to do it, I’m insane. I’m much too old.”

IsRed Dwarf’s Shorter Episode Order A Concern?

Even The Changes Have Not Hurt The Viewership OfRed Dwarf.

While half the length of Dave’s previously commissionedRed Dwarfseasons and less than the initial standard series order that Llewyn first expected,The Promised Landmaintained a consistent viewership that surpassed season 12’s viewership.

With 2025’s newRed Dwarfepisodes following the 2020 format, it is clear that the cast and crew have settled on an ideal approach for the series. While the series began as a BBC production that aired on BBC 2 for its first eight seasons, it found a new home on the UKTV comedy-centric channel, Dave, with a miniseries revival,Red Dwarf: Back To Earth, in 2009 that would befollowed by three more six-episode seasons in the 2010s. However,The Promised Land’s change may be a permanent status quo.

Red Dwarf: Back To Earth Was A Weak Return For The Crew After A Decade Gap

Red Dwarf: Back To Earth finally brought back the crew after a decade gap but it was a disappointing reunion after such a long wait.

While half the length of Dave’s previously commissionedRed Dwarfseasons and less than the initial standard series order that Llewyn first expected,The Promised Landmaintained a consistent viewership that surpassed season 12’s viewership. As such, it is clear that, even after 34 years, the series has continued interest as long astheRed Dwarfcastis around. Furthermore, Dave could always commission the series for a longer run should the ratings be consistent in the future.

After thirty-four years, multiple hiatus, and broadcasting changes, the return ofRed Dwarfmeans that viewers can look forward to more laughter, helping ensure its long-lasting legacy. As such, many old and new viewers will be left eager to see what 2025’s adventure will bring. Regardless of the shorter episode order, it won’t stop Lister, Rimmer, Kryten, and Cat from continuing their misadventures.
