DC is set to make a massive comeback with its lineup of films and TV shows for its new DC Universe. Overseen byJames Gunnand Peter Safran, this upcoming cinematic universe will undoubtedly reinvigorate the franchise with a fresh timeline filled with unique comic book characters.
With the franchise featuring iconic heroes like Superman and Batman and more underrated characters like Booster Gold and The Authority, fans have plenty to look forward to in the next few years. While fans wait for this next chapter of superhero media, here are all the upcoming films and TV shows confirmed for the DCU so far.
Creature Commandos season 2
The new DC Universe officially began with this seven-episode animated series written by James Gunn himself. The show featured Amanda Waller forming a new black-ops team after being banned from putting “human” lives at risk with the Suicide Squad.
This series introduced a more “monstrous” successor to Task Force X led by Rick Flag Sr., starring DC newcomers like Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoë Chao, Frank Grillo, David Harbour (Stranger Thingsseason 5), Alan Tudyk, and Indira Varma.
In December 2024,Creature Commandoswas renewed for a second season.
Peacemaker season 2 (2025)
Peacemaker‘s second seasonwill show the titular antihero team up with his pals again in eight new episodes written by Gunn. It’s unknown exactly how the story will be affected by DC’s recent timeline reboot. But given how season 1 ends, the show will likely depict Peacemaker still haunted by his father after killing him.
Since the show will include Rick Flag Sr.,Peacemakerseason 2 should connect withCreature Commandosand address the murder of Rick Flag Jr. inThe Suicide Squad, which still torments the guilty Peacemaker. Atrailer for the seriesalso shows Peacemaker entering another dimension and encountering an alternate version of himself, suggesting that this series will delve further into the multiverse.
Along with the show’s core cast,Peacemakerseason 2 will feature Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and Tim Meadows as A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury. It will also feature Sean Gunn, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced reprising their respectiveSupermanroles as Maxwell Lord, Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl.
Peacemakerseason 2 will premiere on August 16, 2025.
Batman: Brave and the Bold
For the first time in live-action, DC will show Batman fighting crime with his biological son, Damian Wayne/Robin. The film will be directed by Andy Muschietti, best known for helming 2017’s horror hitItand 2023’sThe Flash. Though the latter didn’t exactly win over audiences, Muschietti did a fantastic job presenting both Ben Affleck andMichael Keaton’s versions of Batman.
Having Muschietti direct a feature-length film about the Dark Knight and his Bat Family should give the Caped Crusader the sprawling and exciting solo film he never got in the DC Extended Universe.
Lanterns (2026)
Billed by Gunn as a cosmic detective story inspired byTrue Detective, this series will follow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder in the heart of America.Lanternshave already gathered a veritable team of writers, which includes showrunner Chris Mundy (Ozark), comics scribe Tom King, and Damon Lindelof (HBO’sWatchmen).
As for the cast, DC has hired Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) to play Jordan and Stewart, respectively. They will be joined by actors Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men), Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of), Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee), and Nicole Ari Parker (And Just Like That…).
Lanternsis set to premiere on HBO in early 2026 and will feature eight episodes.
Swamp Thing
Swamp Thinghas beendescribed by Gunnas a “very dark horror story” about the origins of the titular monster with a tone outside the rest of the DCU. The film’s production will be led by writer/director James Mangold, who made his mark in the superhero genre with 2017’s smash hit,Logan. Given the other stories in his filmography, Mangold will likely present a dark, tragic film as he tells the story of Alec Holland as he is reborn as the not-so-jolly green giant.
Since Amanda Waller is one of the DC’s most prominent, non-superpowered characters, her solo show written byWatchmen‘s Christal Henry should be one of the more distinctive additions to the DCU. And with Viola Davis reprising her role as the sinister Waller, the series should be nothing short of enthralling.
WhileWallerwill be set in the DC Universe and assemble characters fromPeacemaker, Gunnconfirmedit won’t be a comedy like the latter show. Nevertheless,Doom Patrolwriter Jeremy Carver has signed up to write the series.
Paradise Lost
James Gunnstatedthat this show will present a “story of [Wonder Woman’s birthplace] Paradise Island, usually known as Themyscira,” and it is almost like “Game of Throneswith Westeros, but with all of the inhabitants of Paradise Island.”
It’s unknown how or if Wonder Woman will appear in the story. But for those wishing the Amazonian hero got a third film with Gal Gadot, this series may serve as a close substitute for the time being.
The Authority
Based on the characters made by WildStorm comics, the film will see the members of the Authority come together and interact with the main heroes of the DC Universe. Gunn stated that a writer has been hired for the film, though their identity remains a mystery. However, he later revealedin an interview withHappy Sad Confusedthat the writer has moved on to another DCU movie, meaning it may take longer than expected forThe Authorityto come out.
Since the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), a prominent member of WildStorm’s team, was introduced inSuperman, she will likely be a part ofThe Authorityafter surviving her battle with the Man of Steel.
Booster Gold
This HBO Max series will follow everyone’s favorite golden boy as he travels from the future to the present day to use his advanced technology to become a superhero and make people love him.
Gunnclaimsthis series is “basically a superhero story of imposter syndrome,” which should present a unique take on the genre in a world filled with costumed crimefighters.
Supergirl (2026)
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, this film will adapt Tom King’s recent comic book of the same name.Varietystated that this epic sci-fi story will depict Kara Zor-El as she celebrates her 21st birthday with an intergalactic trip with her dog, Krypto. During her journey, she will team up with a young woman on a quest for revenge against a killer alien pirate.
WithHouse of the Dragonstar Milly Alcock portraying Supergirl, the movie will show the Last Daughter of Krypton face off against the comic’s antagonist: Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). The film will also feature3 Body Problemactor Eve Ridley playing Ruthye Mary Knolle, the young alien warrior who helps Kara hunt down Krem.
Supergirlwill premiere in theaters on July 23, 2025.
Untitled Teen Titans film
Now that HBO Max’s showTitanshas concluded, DC will make way for a new iteration of the team in theirrecently announcedlive-action movie. It’s unknown which heroes will make up the titular team.
But since Damian Wayne will be introduced inBatman: Brave and the Bold, it is likely that the events of the film will tie into the Teen Titans, with the young Robin joining the team as he does in the comics.Supergirl‘s writer Ana Nogueira will also pen the script for this film.
Whether or not the superhero Starfire will appear in this, please note that theStarfireTV series being produced by DC Studios will be an “Elseworlds” project unrelated to the DCU.
Untitled Blue Beetle series
Following 2023’sBlue Beetle, the armored hero will return in this animated sequel series. Actor Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role from the original film as protagonist Jaime Reyes in the show.
According toDeadline, the film’s executive producer, Miguel Puga, will serve as showrunner, and the film’s director and screenwriter, Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, will return as EPs for the series.
Untitled Bane and Deathstroke film
Two popular members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery, Bane and Deathstroke, will share the spotlight in their own film. The movie currently has no director. However, the project will be penned by Matthew Orton, who co-wrote the script for another superhero blockbuster:Captain America: Brave New World. Filming willreportedlytake place in England sometime in 2025.
Clayface (2026)
In a surprising but welcome move, DC greenlit writer/director Mike Flanagan’s screenplay for a movie about Batman’s shapeshifting adversary, Clayface. Flanagan is famous for creating modern horror classics likeThe Haunting of Hill House,The Fall of the House of Usher,Doctor Sleep, andMidnight Mass. Since Flanagan is currently working on adaptations ofStephen King’sCarrieandThe Dark Tower, as well as a reboot ofThe Exorcist,James Watkins (Speak No Evil) will serve as the director ofClayface.
Though this will be Flanagan’s first comic book project, he has clearly displayed a strong passion for Clayface with his long-gestating script. The story will present a horror-thriller-tragedy centered around a not-so-villainous version of its titular character, according toDeadline, making it the perfect new film from this horror master.
Actor Tom Rhys Harries has been cast as the film’s titular character, andObi-Wan Kenobiwriter Hossein Amini has worked on a new draft of Flanagan’s script.
Clayfaceis scheduled to premiere on August 01, 2025.
ChallengersandQueerwriter Justin Kuritzkes has been hired to direct a film centered around Sgt. Rock. This obscure character made his debut in the DCU in a flashback in the third episode ofCreature Commandos. Sgt. Rock is a boxer-turned-World War II soldier with exceptional strength, endurance, and marksmanship.
Deadlinereported thatChallengersandQueerdirector Luca Guadagnino was in talks to direct the film. Though actor Daniel Craig was circling the film’s titular lead role,The Hollywood Reporterstated that he won’t appear in the project.Although Guadagnino is no longer working on the project, the film isreportedlystillin development.
Dynamic Duo (2028)
DC announced that it will produce the animated film,Dynamic Duo, which depicts the origins of two Robins: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. While Dick Grayson is known for becoming the heroic vigilante Nightwing, Todd infamously takes a darker path in the comes as he becomes the murderous villain, the Red Hood. The movie’s production will be overseen by Arthur Mintz, who will make his feature-film debut as director. It will also be written by Matthew Aldrich, who wrote the scripts for Pixar’sCocoandLightyear.
Dynamic Duois scheduled for release on July 24, 2025.
Untitled Wonder Woman film
Gunn announced the film in June 2025, tellingEntertainment Weeklythat it is a separate story from HBO’sParadise Lost. Ana Nogueira is also currently working on the film’s screenplay. It is unknown who will play the film’s titular hero, meaning Gal Gadot is not confirmed to reprise her role as Wonder Woman. At the same time, the film doesn’t have a director, and it is unclear ifWonder Womandirector Patty Jenkins will lead the production after her third film in the franchise was canceled.
Mister Miracle
This adult animated series will be based on another acclaimed comic from writer Tom King. The source material follows Scott Free, a superpowered escape artist, as he tries to overcome his depression and trauma and escape death itself at the hands of his adoptive father, Darkseid, and the brainwashing Anti-Life Equation.
DC fans likely remember that Darkseid and the New Gods were explored inZack Snyder’s Justice League. While DC Studios canceled initial plans for the character with its franchise reset,Mister Miracleimplies that it will have much bigger plans for the titular character, as well as Big Barda and Darkseid, in the DC Universe.
