Fargo Season 6 Delay Addressed By Creator As Work On His Alien TV Series Continues
Summary
Fargostar Sam Spruell has opened up about his potential return as Ole Munch in a future season, including whether the character should come back. Introduced in season 5 of the anthology series, Spruell’s character is a 500-year-old sin eater who, after adhering to a code of debts throughout the show, is taught by Dot Lyon to see a more peaceful way of life.Fargoseason 5 endedwith him realizing he didn’t need to be surrounded by sin because of his curse, something that makes him smile for the very first time.
Speaking withScreen Rant,Spruell said that he would be willing to portray Ole Munch againin a later season ofFargodepending on the circumstances. While he enjoyed playing the character, he also believes the other characters in season 5 were important to his development, making it unclear if he’d work without them. Check out what Spruell had to say below:

Yeah, I think so. I did love playing that character. I really believed in what [creator] Noah [Hawley] was trying to do with that character, as well, and what that character represented and who he was as a man. Even though he was a supernatural character, I found everything about him, on the page, anyway, really believable. That’s so joyous as an actor to read a script or read the lines of your character and completely understand where they’re coming from and completely believe that.
So much of our job is, maybe, helping the script be better. I’m sure that was tweaks along the way, but with Fargo, I really felt like Noah’s writing for my character and throughout the show was so strong. I loved it. In that sense, I would like to [see] more of what Noah has to say through that character. However, that character, and the power of that character, only exists because of the other actors on the show, and the characters that they were playing.

If they’re not going to be there, I don’t know. Maybe he wouldn’t be as impactful, or maybe he wouldn’t be as strong. You’re only as good as your scene partners. I don’t know. It’s a tricky one. I’m on the fence about it. I’d love to come back. I’d love a spinoff. But, no, I think he ends with season 5 of Fargo, and that is it.
Should Ole Munch Return In Fargo Season 6?
His Appearance Should Be Minor.
However, one way Ole Munch can return without compromising the ending he got in season 5 would be in a short cameo revealing what he did with his life.
The final episode of season 5 rounds out the sin eater’s character, giving him the ability to break his cycle of debts and sin to live the life he wants to. While he’s still seemingly afflicted by immortality,Ole Munch’s curseis no longer as great a burden on himas it was before. This gives him the potential freedom to do what he wants with his life now, unburdened by a need to pursue debts in the form of killing people or seeking revenge.
However, given how definitively his story ended in season 5, it’s unclear if Ole Munch should be brought back for a potentialFargoseason 6. If he was, then it could potentially help his original season be tied to the rest of the show, rounding out the series' shared universe. But,as Spruell points out, the characters surrounding his own were integral to his development, meaning a later appearance wouldn’t be as resonant. While it’s still possible for him to come back, it probably wouldn’t be for a major role.

However, one way Ole Munch can return without compromising the ending he got in season 5 would be in a short cameo revealing what he did with his life. This could allow him to come back without being part of a major storyline, allowing him to appear while keeping the ending he originally got. SinceFargo’s seasons are all connected in some way, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for him to pop back up, even if it’s just for a moment.
