Forgotten Overwatch 2 character teased as future hero in new animated trailer
One highly requested background character in Overwatch 2 was finally hinted at in a new hero trailer for Freja, suggesting that he’ll be playable in the future.
Overwatch is releasing a steady amount of new characters in the upcoming months,including the next DPS character Frejaanda new support hero code named Aqua. In addition,we know of a “gladiator-esque” characterwho is expected to be a future Tank.
Despite this, Blizzard seems to be going all out with teasing new characters, as a well-known background character was inserted as a mysterious teaser in Freja’s hero trailer. Should the pattern hold, this fabled and highly requested character will finally see the light as a playable character.
Emre Sarioglu teased in new Overwatch 2 trailer
Emre Sarioglu is a Turkish character who joined Overwatch after the Omnic Crisis who was first teased back in 2018. Many fans at the time expected Emre to become the 27th playable hero, but this title went to Brigitte instead as a counter to a dominant dive meta.
Since then, Emre has been periodically teased throughout Overwatch 2’s lifespan. Sojourn has a voiceline about Emre which often hints at future playable characters, and there’s even an in-game title called “EmreMain” as a streamer mode option.
Now, it seems like Emre is finally on the horizon after making a brief appearance in the Freja’s animated hero trailer. At the conclusion of the trailer, Maximilien tasks Freja with targeting Emre as her next bounty target, also hinting at a larger role in the lore overall for Emre.

Fans were understandably ecstatic over the revelation, with many in the community arguably more excited for Emre over Freja herself.
“The way she got outperformed by [Maximilien] AND a singular Emre hint in her own trailer lmao,” joked one user. “I mean she looked ‘cool’ and all but who cares about her with Max and Emre present?”

While there hasn’t been a teaser for Emre to this magnitude as of yet, the hero has been hinted at before and there are already other heroes slated for the future. In other words, it’s still not a certainty that Emre graces our presence at some point. Still, it’s hard to imagine such a climactic mention for Emre doesn’t lead to something for his character.
In the meantime, players can expect aFreja hero trial to release on March 21to test out the next Damage hero coming to the game.
