Summary

It’s been more than a year sinceHogwarts Legacywas released, giving players the chance to explore the labyrinth of Hogwarts in a new adventure set a century before the events ofHarry Potter. The developers have started teasingafree summer updatebringing some new content and bug fixes on June 6, but it seems the developers may have hyped this up just a little too much.

As an update that Avalanche Softwarefirst teased back in January, previously platform-exclusive content was promised to be part of the update, along with additional new content. But as the update’s release date draws closer,it’s clear there’s little to be excited about.Though updates added later into the game’s lifespan often indicate a reason to revisit a title after the initial hype has faded, the meager additions leave a lot to be desired – and fans aren’t afraid to say so.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 May Already Be In Trouble

Hogwarts Legacy 2 isn’t officially happening, but a shift in strategy from the first game’s publisher is a bad sign for future wizarding world games.

Hogwarts Legacy Players Were Hoping For DLC

The Update Is Too Small For The Hype Created

Though Avalanche Software has been teasing this update for months, once the content was unveiled, players were open about their disappointment. In the replies under a post showcasing the different features included in the to-be-added photo mode, players remarked how lackluster this update feels. “Can ya’ll actually add something new…we need a substantial update,” X (formerly Twitter) usergrandenewshubreplied.

Others echoed this sentiment. “We waited over a year for photo mode and an hour of added gameplay,” X userTheMockingjay38commented. It seems many hoped this update would be the size of a DLC expansion, especially PlayStation users, who are getting the least amount of new content out of this update. Though it adds the most content the game has seen since its release (with some well-requested additions), it’s ultimately underwhelming. Developers have continuously found ways to keep games feeling fresh years after release with content updates, and for a game as popular asHogwarts Legacy, this update feels like it would’ve been better suited for a shadow drop than a repeatedly marketed release.

10 Rarest Things That Can Happen In Hogwarts Legacy

Players can find plenty of secrets through careful exploration, but when it comes to the rarest events in Hogwarts Legacy, it all comes down to luck.

There’s Not A Lot Of Content Being Added To Hogwarts Legacy In This Update

A Look Through The Patch Notes

According to the update’s patch notes (via theHogwarts Legacywebsite), released on June 5, the additions teased on the game’s official X account are all that will be added (along with some bug fixes, of course). Photo mode is one of the most-requested features included in the update, but it’s arguably the only big addition. Players can situate their character in a variety of poses (sitting and standing) and even alter the weather in the background – though seasons are not a new feature being added in the update.

Players will also finally be able to spend galleons to resetTalent Pointsin the Field Guide. There are five different talent trees players can unlock as they play, and the permanent cap of 35 Talent Points was one of the few draws to replay the title. But respeccing a character is pricey –players will have to shell out 200 galleons for every Talent Point they want to reallocate.

The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest that was previously only available to those playing on PlayStation will now be available to all players as part of this update. Other console and preorder exclusives, like the onyx Hippogriff mount and the Felix Felicis potion, will also become available to players, in addition to new cosmetics like the Azkaban Prisoners Outfit and Coat, the Shopkeeper Cosmetic set, the Glasses That Lived (clearly based off Harry’s look), and theLavendar Borealis Broom. This is where the new content ends, though.

While this summer update is bringing plenty of welcome additions toHogwarts Legacy,it’s barely enough to entice players to return to the wizarding world – especially for those playing on PlayStation. Most of the new cosmetics and quests added to the game were already available to those who purchased the game on PS4 or PS5. The new photo mode feels long overdue for those playing since launch, and with a handful of cosmetics launching across the board, it feels unfinished considering the lead time on this update.
