Speaking withEntertainment Weekly, Reid opened up aboutInterview with the Vampireseason 2, episode 7’s big Claudia twist, explainingthe importance of her death to Lestat through the way he presented himself onstage. The actor explained how perspective was an important part of the performance, especially finally seeing the past from his point of view. Check out what Reid had to say about the episode below:

It’s one thing to say, ‘I’m always going to play this character’s point of view.’ But that can be confusing for an audience. So sometimes I’ve got to show some part of how it really went, so that when you see that, you think, ‘Why did he do it like that?’ Or, ‘Why is he speaking in that way?’ So that it does feel justified when you fully understand what happened. Why might he be looking like he’s going to fall over, or why does he look like he’s struggling here when he shouldn’t be?
He’s trying to get the audience eating out of his hand so he can manipulate them. He needs to be constantly going out, touching them, being near them, getting them to laugh, getting them to be totally eating out of his hand. But it’s very hard to do that when you’ve got Louis there, you’ve got Claudia there. It is very hard to control because he’s just like a ball of emotion. He’s a tempest of his feelings. He’s not very good at controlling himself. He’s also not a planner; he just kind of feels it out and wings it. So it’s all messy and chaotic. And this is the last place he wants to be. It’s a lot of bad feelings, a lot of bad history, a lot bad blood there.

How Claudia’s Death Will Impact Interview With The Vampire Season 2’s Finale
Claudia’s death is a major event for the series, and a classic part of the original story that becomes a key fixture as to what Louis' next move is going to be. However, the series puts a spin on things by having Lestat watch her die, seemingly overwhelmed by what he’s done as she is burned to death by the sunshine. This might be because of another reveal in the episode: Louis turned her into a vampire despite knowing the consequences of what her life would be like. Her death becomes more tragic because of these circumstances.
The presentation of her death marks another reason whyInterview with the Vampireseason 2got positive reviews, as it’s able to put detailed, complex attributes into its characters' stories. While Lestat testified at the trial knowing his actions would likely lead to Louis and Claudia’s demises, to see it himself made it unclear if he was really ready to comprehend the meaning behind his actions. This sets the stage for a major confrontation in the season finale, as the protagonist seeks vengeance for what happened to his surrogate daughter.
