2024 is shaping up to be the biggest year in the cartoon franchise’s history with the announcement ofa live-actionTotally Spies!series. In June 2024, Amazon MGM Studios revealed the development of the series, though they didn’t come to the table with too many concrete details. The news came during the airing ofTotally Spies!season 7 in its native France, the show’s first new season since the series went off the air in 2015.

Totally Spies!season 7 is slated to air in the US on Cartoon Network later in 2024.

Comedy icon Will Ferrell will serve as executive producer on the project, and the cartoon’s original distributor, Banijay Kids & Family is involved as well. The updated version is said to be a young adult take on the material which will use the basic framework of the classic cartoon while aging the characters slightly to accommodate a new audience demographic.Nothing is known about the casting yet, and no writers or directors have been announcedto helm the project. With a social media base of 3 million, the series continues to thrive in its animation form with the recently launched 7th season. Rola Bauer approached me for a live-action adaptation, and we were thrilled to partner with Amazon MGM Studios. With her, Ludovic Attal, and Punit Matoo’s support, we are honoured to join such a stronghold of female-focused producers in Gloria Sanchez Productions to produce for Prime Video.

Very little is currently known about Amazon MGM Studios' adaptation ofTotally Spies!, but there are a few interesting names attached behind the scenes. Perhaps the most recognizable is that ofcomedy icon Will Ferrell who will serve as an executive produceron the project. ThoughWill Ferrell’s best moviesare what he is most known for, the celebratedSNLalum is no stranger to producing, and he even helped create the websiteFunny or Diewith Adam McKay. Ferrell also recently served as a producer on the hit series,Dead to Me.

Along with Ferrell’s name to support the project,the live-actionTotally Spies!series is being brought to life by Amazon MGM Studios, the massive conglomerate behind most Prime Video shows, and Banijay Kids & Family. The latter found great success as the international distributor for the series, but it’s unclear how involved the company will be in the development of the show.
