Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter #425

Summary

My Hero Academiamay be in its self-declared epilogue, but it seems this epilogue will be more like one last story arc, as the manga teases the entrance of a new villain following Shigaraki and All for One’s defeat. While this seemingly villainous figure remains a mystery at the moment, they could offer some insight into how exactly things have changed in hero society.

Chapter 425 was mostly focused on the graduation ceremonies at UA, as the third-years like Mirio Togata graduated, and Class 1-A moved on up to become class 2-A. However, near the end of the chapter, a pair of scissors is shown, followed by a mysterious crying figure with messy hair who seems to be wearing a face mask. Wandering barefoot, the figure emerged from a tunnel into the destroyed ruins of a city, huffing with each step.

Just who is this new character, and what could they possibly be up to?

One Last Story Arc Could Show How Society Has Changed

This New Character May Prove Hero Society’s Failings Have Been Fixed

One of the biggest themes ofMy Hero Academiathroughout its run was the idea of hero society, and how this civilization that was so dependent on hero figures began to develop cracks in which people could slip through and become lost, turning them into villains. Shigaraki was the perfect example of this, with people choosing not to help him because “a hero will do it,” and they didn’t want to get involved. If even one person had reached out toShigaraki with a helping hand (besides All for One), he may not have ever become a villain.

This was true of most of the League of Villains, and showed how hero society failed those on the fringes.Shigaraki’s final exchange with Deku proved that the old society was gone, destroyed like the villains wanted it to be, and now’s the time to build something new.To build a society that won’t let people on the verge of becoming villains slip through the cracks, and get them the help they need. If that can be accomplished, then the villains' efforts weren’t entirely in vain.

My Hero Academia Confirms It Is NOT Ending Yet, Teasing a Whole New Arc

My Hero Academia’s latest chapter introduces a new mysterious character, bringing in the possibility of a whole new arc before the end of the series.

Having only appeared in a few panels, this new character hasn’t done anything villainous quite yet. It’s merely their menacing appearance which suggests that they might be on the verge of becoming a villain. Given their situation (crying, barefoot in the rubble), this does seem like someone who may have lost everything in the fighting. If so, now is the time for a hero to reach out to them, to help them recover before negative impulses can take control and cause them to do something truly villainous.

IfMy Hero Academiais to have one last story arc, then this is the time to show to the audience that things really have changedfollowing Shigaraki’s defeat, and that Deku’s new world won’t be one that allows people to fall into villainy due to the circumstances of their lives. The flaws of the old hero society were plain to see throughoutMy Hero Academia’s story, and it’s up to Deku and the next generation to fix those flaws to prevent someone like Shigaraki from ever appearing again.
