A new Surface Laptop could be coming soon: Four different models of the rumored next version of the Microsoft Surface Laptop have passed through Bluetooth.org certifications, according to a report fromWinCentral.
Microsoft released theSurface Pro 7+ for commercial and education customersrecently, and these laptops that passed certification could be similarly named — either a refreshed Surface Laptop 3+ or a new Surface Laptop 4. The laptops have four model numbers: 1952, 1953, 1958, and 1959.
Each of these model numbers is believed to refer to different screen sizes, either 13-inch or 15-inch versions. The models also appear listed next to the Surface Pro 7+, adding to the speculation.
The certifications do not reveal much about the specifications or the looks of the laptops themselves, but it does suggest a release could be coming soon. Windows Centralreportsthat the new Surface Laptop models could arrive as soon as April of this year.
In the past, it has been only a few weeks between certification and product launch, as was the case with theFCC clearing the Surface Duo, as well as that of aSurface Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse in 2019.
Another rumor suggests that these new Surface Laptop models could come with Intel’s latest 11th-generation processors under the hood, as well as options for AMD’s Ryzen 4000 mobile chips. Listings on Geekbnchmentionedproducts code-named “OEMWY” and “OEMGR” which are common names for Microsoft to use when testing its products on the benchmarking platform.
We had heard thatthe design of these laptopswould likely not change, meaning there would not be slimmer bezels or the addition of a dedicated graphics card. This is based on previous product certification testing in Korea, which revealed photos of the casing of the devices.
The Surface Laptop 4 or Surface Laptop 3+ would join the Surface Pro 7+ in Microsoft’s lineup of devices so far in 2021.Rumor has itthat the company is working with its partners on new devices for education and commercial customers withWindows 10X, the next-generation operating system meant to take on Chrome OS and Chromebooks.
Elsewhere, despite the announcement of newNvidia 3000 seriesmobile graphics cards at CES 2021, there is no word yet on any refreshes of the Surface Book lineup, Microsoft’s most powerful Surface device.
