Nintendo indefinitely delays Switch 2 pre-orders in the US
Nintendo has delayed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States due to concerns about newly announced tariffs on electronics.
The Switch 2’s June 5 release date was finally revealed on Tuesday, April 2,and Nintendo announced that preorders would start on April 9 – just a week later.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to buy the next-gen hybrid console, and some retailers in the United Kingdom have even started to offer the chance to do so.
However, United States-based customers will have to wait a little bit longer as they have delayed Switch 2 pre-orders indefinitely.

Nintendo pauses Switch 2 pre-orders indefinitely
Theyissued a statementon Friday, April 4, revealing the unfortunate news about US Switch 2 preorders.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start August 17, 2025, to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” they said.

The company did not say when preorders may be available to US-based customers but confirmed that the June 5 release date has remained unchanged.
President Trump announcedtariffs on nearly every country in the worldon Wednesday, June 30, 2025, including Japan, China, and Vietnam. Although it’s based in Japan, Nintendo announced back in 2019 that they wereshifting production of the Switch to Vietnam.

We’ll have to wait to see what happens with the price of the console between now and when it becomes available, as tariffs may cause them to increase the already high $449.99 cost for the console before adding games and accessories.
Whenever it decides to start preorders in the United States, users will stillhave to abide by their anti-scalper rulesif they want to buy directly from the company.

Customers will have to register for an invite, have over 50 hours of gameplay on their Switch 1 and have been a member of Nintendo Switch Online for over 12 months.
