“Nintendo and the three service providers will take measures to combat fraudulent listings of Nintendo products, including Nintendo Switch 2, that violate their respective terms of use, including by having the service providers proactively remove listings and by establishing a collaborative system for sharing information,” reads the official statement.

Additionally, Yahoo Auctions/Yahoo Flea Market hasbannedall Switch 2 console listings.

Nintendo Japan imposes new anti-scalping restrictions

This move comes justa month after the Japanese video game company placed hefty restrictionson My Nintendo Store purchases. Back in April, fans were required to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, share 50 hours of gameplay data, and be at least 18 years old to pre-order a Switch 2.

Demand for the console has been so high thatNintendo’s President issued an apology as a “significant” number of Switch 2 pre-orders were left unfulfilled. Furukawa noted that Nintendo had received approximately 2.2 million pre-order applications in Japan alone.

As you can imagine, this makes reselling a rather appealing prospect for scalpers, especially given the huge demand and the eye-watering resale price.Switch 2 scalpers have also been a huge problem in the US, with the console receiving listings for over $700 on eBay.

It remains uncertain whether Nintendo America will take such measures in the future, but for now, it’s hoped this new move will help to put off scalpers in Japan.
