Pokemon World Champion Wolfey praises “game changing” Presents reveal

The current Pokemon World Champion Wolfe “Wolfey” Glick has reacted to the Pokemon Champions announcement – and he’s very excited for what it could mean for competitive play.

Wolfey initially thought the promo forPokemon Championswas for a Gen 10 reveal. This was because the video used Game Freak’s classic tactic of showing Pokemon fans throughout the years before revealing what it was for. However, this time, the promo showed footage of games like Pokemon Stadium as well as mainline entries in the franchise.

After realizing the game was for a Pokemon arena battle game on mobile, Wolfey shouted, “Wait, what is this?” in excitement. His hype only grew when he saw that the game could be played on mobile as well as Nintendo Switch and included features likeMega Evolutionand Tera forms in the same game.

Upon seeing the Pokemon Champions logo and learning more about the concept, Wolfey enthusiastically noted the game’s similarities to Pokemon Showdown, one that lets players customize and simulate Pokemon battles.

Wolfey then gave his thoughts on Champions, saying, “This could legitimately change the game. One of the main barriers to entry to getting people to play Pokemon competitively is the fact that you have to get the Pokemon games.”

He went on to say, “That could be one of the biggest changes to competitive Pokemon since Wi-Fi was introduced. That is awesome. I don’t think I’ve given a big enough reaction to how massive this is.” And, “After this game releases, if it’s done properly and it’s good, this it could change everything.”

Pokemon Champions could change competitive play

What Wolfey means is that Pokemon Champions could open up competitive Pokemon play and make it more accessible to the average person.

It would allow more casual players, who potentially discovered the series through Pokemon Go or TCG Pocket, to get involved, rather than just the seasoned players who commit many hours to the RPG games when they come out.

It would also allow those who do enjoy playing the games to pit their best Pokemon against more challengers than just those who play the mainline entries. By transferring Pokemon from the Home app to the Pokemon Champions app, battles between trainers could take place anywhere, especially with both being on smartphones.

Competitive Pokemon player Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng alsoshared his thoughts on X(Twitter), echoing Wolfey and saying, “Competitive Pokémon is about to evolve to the next level.”

The announcement of Pokemon Champions and the gameplay reveal ofPokemon Legends Z-Awere the two most highly thought of moments from thePokemon Day Presentation.

Otherfans were disappointedby the lack of news regarding Gen 10 and that there was no announcement for a Pokemon Black and White remake.
