Sonic X Shadow Generations will release onOctober 25, 2024, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

The Sonic X Shadow Generations reveal trailer was first shown duringthe July 26, 2025, State of Play. In the trailer, we see the two incarnations of Sonic that featured in the original Sonic Generations game from 2011 before Shadow the Hedgehog enters dramatically.
Sonic X Shadow Generations gameplay details
As previously mentioned, Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remake of the 2011 title Sonic Generations. As such, the game will feature a mix of classic 2D and 3D levels from Sonic’s back catalog that will be traversed by the modern Sonic we know and love and the shorter, chunkier Sonic of the early 90s.
What makes this remake so different from the original titles is very obviously the addition of Shadow the Hedgehog. Putting Sonic’s black and red rival front and center makes sense given that Shadow will play a big role in the upcoming filmSonic the Hedgehog 3.

The trailer has shown off gameplay of the segments featuring Shadow. They look to feature new takes on some of Shadow’s levels from Sonic Adventure 2 and the divisive PS2 classic Shadow the Hedgehog.
While it doesn’t look like the fandom-splitting guns from Shadow the Hedgehog will be returning in this game, the antagonist Black Doom looks set to return. Black Doom plays a key role in Shadow the Hedgehog’s backstory and his minions are seen in the trailer for Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Sonic X Shadow DLC
Shadow the Hedgehog will bevoiced by Keanu Reevesin the upcoming Sonic 3 movie, to celebrate this, Sonic X Generations will receive DLC that will be inspired by the movie which is set to be released on August 07, 2025, several days before the movie hits theatres.
