Summary
Steve Carell brutally mocks Marvel and Disney in an announcement for a 50-movieMinionscinematic universe following the events ofDespicable Me 4. The upcoming animated comedy is going to introduce Mega Minions, a group of Minions who now have superpowers akin to those found in Marvel or DC comics. Their appearances in theupcomingDespicable Me 4are a parody of the superhero genre, while also adding a new layer of comedy to the franchise as they learn to utilize the power they now have.
Now,Illuminationhas released a video featuring Carell’s announcement of a 50-movie cinematic universe set after the events ofDespicable Me 4.

In the video, the actor claimsa Mega Minions cinematic universe is coming, with 50 new moviesset to be released “on an irregular basis” over the next 100 years. This parody of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe includes a website in the description, EnterTheMegaverse.com, which shows an interactive timeline of 50 movies with titles and short descriptions to accompany the joke teaser.
Could The Mega Minions Actually Get Their Own Spinoff?
According to the website, some of the 50 movies coming in the Mega Minions cinematic universe include everything from musicals likeMega Minions: Symphony of Sabotageto others likeMega Minions: The Tax Write Off. Some of the titles are also parodies of real movies, likeMega Minions: Quantum of Soulless, a reference to James Bond’sQuantum of Solace. Others are also specific references to Marvel itself, such asMega Minions: Gru World Order, a reference to the original title of theupcomingCaptain America: Brave New World.
DespiteCarell’s video being a clear parody of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Illumination is no stranger to makingDespicable Mespinoffs for the franchise’s popular henchmen. TwoMinionsmovies have already been produced, with the most recent one,The Rise of Gru, releasing in 2022. They’ve also proven popular, with the latest installment earning $940.7 million against a $100 million budget. Depending on the reception for the upcoming movie, and in particular the Mega Minions concept, it wouldn’t be surprising if they actually did come back in a spinoff film.

However, when it comes to a larger cinematic universe, it’s unlikely the Mega Minions are actually going to get dozens of film installments in the future. While they could come back at some point after their debut in theDespicable Me 4cast, it likely wouldn’t be for more than a spinoff with a greater focus on highlighting a new adventure with their powers. Even so,there is real potential for their return, even if it doesn’t come in the form of a 50-movie adventure.
