While this is the first time Hoult has been spotted as Lex Luthor, previousSupermanset photos might help explain why the villain is bloody. The first round of images and videos from the movie’s set revealed thatMetropolis will be littered with destructionat some point. With the city under an attack of some sort, Lex Luthor could have been hurt in the middle of the action.
Luthor might also not have been an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of the Man of Steel’s battle with whoever was attacking Metropolis. That is because director James Gunn has confirmed that Hoult’s Lex Luthor is the main villain ofSuperman. Set photos and videos have also shownSuperman getting arrestedby a character from another DCU project, the Engineer, and a masked figure. The mysterious character’s identity has led to many guesses among fans.
Some of the fan-favorite names for who might be behind the mask include Ulysses and Ultraman. However, given how Lex Luthor is the film’s main villain, it could be a surprise twist that he’s actually a physical threat to Corenswet’s Superman, not just an intellectual one. Lex could then be the character behind the armor, and him fighting the Man of Steel would explain the bruises Hoult displays in the newSupermanset photos.
