That ’90s Showpart 2 brought audiences back to the 1990s for another summer in Point Place, Wisconsin, putting to use several great songs from the decade. TheThat ’70s Showspinoff series adopted many of its predecessor’s old tricks, including the frequent nostalgic references to various pop culture features of its setting. Of course, music is often a significant marker of any decade, and the 1990s are no exception. For this reason,That ’90s ShowPart 2 is full of some of the most memorable songs of the first half of the 1990s.
Following Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia,That ’90s ShowPart 2is set in 1996—the middle of the decade known for gunge, alternative, experimental, and pop classics. The significance of music to this decade isn’t lost on Netflix, and each of the eight episodes of part 2 are named after popular song from the ’90s, though the songs themselves are, ironically, absent. This time, Ozzie lip-synced to the song “Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton as he dramatically moves about an empty house (and showers).

“I’m Kissing You” by Des’ree- Jay and Leia’s plan to finally take their relationship to the next level was thwarted by Red’s almost-heart attack inThat ’90s Showpart 2, episode 7, “Baby-Baby-Baby,” and the pair accompanied him to the hospital. While there,Leia imagined that she and her boyfriend were like Romeo and Juliet, which leads to a scene in which they look longingly at one another through a fishtank like Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the movieRomeo + Juliet. Fittingly, the song “I’m Kissing You” by Des’ree accompanies this.

“You Were Meant For Me” by Jewel- The final episode ofThat ’90s Showpart 2 sees Nate realize that he still has feelings for Nikki, and this happensas he watches her sing “You Were Meant for Me” by Jeweland the surprise house party. Nikki (played by Sam Morelos) did the song great justice, and Nate realized that there was a lot about his ex-girlfriends that he didn’t know. The touching song was the perfect way to wrap up the more emotional part ofThat ’90s Showpart 2’s storyline, with more such moments, accompanied by more great ’90s songs, sure to come in part 3.

That ’70s Show returns set two decades later with That ’90s Show, acting as a sequel but bringing back old cast favorites. Led by Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) Forman, the new cast arrives as the next generation, with the daughter of Eric and Donna, Leia Forman, leading the charge. Spending the summer with her grandparents, Leia makes new friends and forges new bonds in Point Place, Wisconsin. That ’70s Show series regulars make cameos in the show to maintain that sense of familiarity, and the show adopts the conventions of the ’90s as expected. That ’90s Show first aired on Netflix with a total of ten episodes.
