We already knew the medic was a military veteran, with hints about his past outside the ER dropped in throughout Season 1. We still don’t know too much about his army days, and judging by the response of his co-workers while watching him take off his leg, they don’t either.

BeforeThe Pitt Season 2can dig up more dirt on Abbott, there’s a nine-month wait in store. But for some fans, this shocking twist was something they always saw coming.

Three days before The Pitt Season 1 finale aired, fans took to Reddit tomuse, “What is the finale ‘reveal’ about Abbott? I’m wondering if we’ll learn that he has a prosthetic foot as a result of his time in the army.”

How did they guess? “I seem to remember seeing a curious BTS shot of him with one foot wrapped in a bright bandage you might use for CGI.”

On top of this, Abbott was seen in earlier episodes with a blood bag strapped to his leg, suggesting something was wrong with his physical self from the jump.

Another fan agreed, “It could be? Wouldn’t be too surprised, though we could probably go back and look at the leg shot when he’s giving blood maybe verify?”

“Interesting theory. I’ve heard nothing of a reveal on him, but if there is one I could see a missing limb or appendage from battle,” a third weighed in.

If you missed what actually happened at the end of The Pitt Season 1, here’s a quick recap. As Robby and Abbott clock off and join some of the others in the park for a beer, Abbott is seen taking off a prosthetic leg. His right leg has seemingly been amputated from the knee down, with Abbott giving no explanation while he whips it out in front of everyone.

While the junior medics around him try not to gawp in surprise, we also learn Abbott would rather be working nights. Whether this is something that is picked up in Season 2 remains to be seen, but we’ve got a lot more personal background we need to get through first.
